Breast asymmetry
refers to the appearance of a part of the breast in comparison to the remainder of that breast and to the other breast. A radiologist will examine a mammogram to look at the difference in position, volume and form of the breasts.
When looking at breast asymmetry , it is important to consider the size, shape, position, and nipple or areolar size of both breasts. Pay attention to any differences between the two that may be out of the ordinary, such as one breast appearing larger than the other, or one nipple’s position is lower than the other.
Differences between the two breasts may be due to developmental, trauma or past surgeries. It may also occur after breastfeeding. In all cases, it is possible to provide symmetry with surgeries to be performed by plastic surgery.
Breast asymmetry surgeries are tough operations of the plastic surgery. The Surgery is not difficult for the patient since it is necessary to know the techniques for the protection of symmetry. In the long run when each breast needs correction with very different techniques. It is beneficial to go out with an experienced plastic surgeon. Good planning is very important in order to make the outcome of the surgery pleasant.
However, it may be necessary to add small corrections after 6 months in rare cases.
We recommend waiting until the age of 18 for improvements of developmental breast asymmetries. In cases such as Virginal Hypertrophy or Poland Syndrome, we are able to perform the surgery earlier than the age of 18.
It is enough to stay in the hospital for 1 night after surgery. The recovery time is the same as other breast surgeries. In any case, it is possible to return to work after 5-6 days.
Correction of the breast asymmetry will make the person psychologically more relaxed and will contribute to self-confidence.
